EXPOSITION DE L'ARTISANAT DES POILUS

at Palavas-les-Flots
  • A multitude of artefacts from the trenches that French WWII soldiers put together during long hours of waiting.
Any small piece of metal, wood, stone or bone was an opportunity to keep their hands busy and minds occupied, to keep tension at bay and pass the time.
Some of their creations are clumsy and naive, but there are also real little works of art: vases, letter openers, inkwells, rings, pendants, and so on.
So much poignant evidence of creativity in the trenches.
